This is Us

Announcing a new social media initiative to celebrate the past 5 years of the competition. "This is Us" is an effort to showcase the happiest, the dirtiest, the most spectacular moments from the 5 years of Enduro Student India. What defines and separates us off-roaders from the rest!

Any team/alumni/participant willing to participate can send us their best three pictures (in the highest resolution format) from the past 5 years of the competition (email it to us at: [email protected]) and we will feature it on our social media pages every Saturday. The best ones would make it our FB page, while we will feature all submissions on our Instagram account. The most liked submissions will get merchandise from us (we have lots to give out!)

The first post in from us, a thank you from all of us organizers to all the participants over the years!

Revision of the CAD and Design Report submission deadline

The Deadline for CAD model submission has been shifted to 30th July and for the Design Report Submission has been shifted to 27th August, 2018.

This has been done to integrate the build calendar of the teams closer than ever before with the competition deadlines to allow teams to submit proper CAD models and Design Reports. In the past we have received CAD models and Design Reports that have zero resemblance to what the teams ultimately build. This will not be tolerated.

We expect teams to go through their entire design iteration process and submit a CAD model that will reflect their final build and one that has gone through optimization suitable to the team's timeline and resources.

Design Validation Event

Throughout the years, we have seen some teams put real effort in their design philosophies and ensuring that every component is well engineered and fits the overall package while achieving the goal of being able to handle any terrain anytime.

But time and again there have been instances where the sub systems were engineered well but not correlated with their ability to fit together as a complete package. There is a third category as well where the teams just bolt bits and pieces together with no value given to the ability of the said part to perform in the manner that it is desired of it.

That said, the current trend also points towards a lot of onboard real time data being accumulated by teams on sub systems. But data isn’t necessarily harvested by teams to relate to something meaningful that goes back into the design loop to validate proper functioning of the part. Data needs to be used to validate performance figures and ensure that the objective that the part was designed to achieve has been achieved and if it hasn’t the reasons for the same. It isn’t about ensuring that the expected value of the part performance figures have to be the same with the real world actual data, but the fact that the designer/ team is able to explain why the deviation occurred (if any) and the steps taken on the part because of the same.

In case of a component that is designed or fabricated by a team, the design and manufacturing of the component is just one part of the design loop. It isn’t the end of the process. Post manufacturing component testing before fitting to the car is an important step in completing the loop. It helps designers understand whether the component is performing to the desired level or not. If it is not performing to the desired level, it is primary that the team finds out why it isn’t the case and the factors that have led to this deviation.

The above two paragraphs explain briefly the change that we want to bring to the design event at the competition and design philosophy among teams. For ESI 2019, there will be a separate validation portion of the design event where we will be judging and evaluating teams based on the validation they have performed on the sub-systems of the car as well as the total package in general. It will be a bonus category optional event for 2019 with 50 bonus points on offer for the team which wins the validation event.

In coming months, we would be releasing more details on the event, the judging criteria, the points allocation criteria and any other relevant details on the same.

This notice serves as a first intimation to all teams for ESI 2019 that just designing without validation will no longer be enough.

Key Points of Change brought after the Pune Meeting

Dear Teams,

This is to inform you of the changes that the Organizing committee is bringing for ESI 2019 after listening to the views of the teams that have attended the Pune Meet:
  1. The registration fees will now cover the entry of 30 members instead of 20 as declared earlier.
  2. There will no three or four installment process for paying the registration fees. It can be a single payment or a two part payment option. There would be no increase in registration fees if one opts for the two payment option. However, missing the deadline for payment of the fees would result in the team having to pay a penalty of INR 2500 (plus taxes). If the deadline is missed for over seven days then the team would forfeit it's place at the event and the place would be given to the waitlisted team. There would be no refund of the money paid (if any).
  3. Taking feedback from the teams,  we have also shifted the deadlines for the complete car picture and video submission closer to the event so as to allow for more teams to meet this criteria. Additionally, the complete car picture submission has been split into four parts to allow for easier submission process and allow for more teams to fulfill this deadline as well.

We really like to listen to the feedback given to us on ways to improve the event.  Pushing the envelope is something that we take pride in. We strive to inculcate the same through our event.
